Five things we love about using Instagram
By: Luke
Have you got an Instagram account? It’s highly likely you have, as 400 million people people use the app each month. We love using Instagram for GB Labels, and here’s why:
Put simply, Instagram is a photo sharing app: people take photos and share them with their followers.
But for us, it’s so much more than that.
Instagram is the perfect way to show off our beautiful labels, as well as making you feel inspired and motivated to design your own. Instagram isn’t about uploading any old photo – it’s about displaying our brand’s style and identity. We take this seriously, and each photo is important to us.
Almost as important as the image is the filter. Applying a filter can completely change the look and feel of your photo, so whether it’s Clarendon, Juno or Gingham: choose wisely.
Usually we like to use Aden or Valencia (a classic) for our photos. If you look through our pictures, you’ll start to notice a similar style, which makes them look smart and consistently sophisticated.
We like to edit our photos, just a tiny bit, to bring out the best in them. By increasing the sharpness and structure of our images, it makes the texture of the different materials stand out.
The images look how you would expect them to feel
This makes it easier for you to choose your favourites and start the ideas process for your design, which ultimately, is what it’s all about.
How do you show off your fantastic photos to people who don’t know about you, or your business?
The answer is: #. Hashtags help you find what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for cats, for example you might want to try #catsofinstagram (you’ll be there a while).
We hashtag our images with #handmadeparade, #creatorslane and many more. This helps us to connect with fellow craftspeople and clothing designers. We find that the more hashtags we use, the more Insta friends we make.
Recently, we been promoting our #ShareYourLabel campaign using a hashtag – we love having a peek at where our labels end up.
There’s nothing we enjoy more than finding incredible independent brands and upcoming designers. Instagram suggests people and accounts to follow, based on what you’ve previously liked. This is really helpful whether you’re looking for similar accounts from your industry, or seeking inspiration from something totally different.
Plus we always check out who’s following us and liking our snaps – we like to follow back and share the label love. We’ve found some of our favourite new designers and brands through doing this regularly and it’s great to chat with new brands.
