GB Labels trend report: the royal wedding

By: Luke

It may have been a few weeks ago, but we’re not quite over the royal wedding just yet. In celebration, we’re taking a misty-eyed look back at the designer garments that graced the royal red carpet.

A beautifully British design

Of course, we can’t not mention Meghan Markle and her two (yes, two) wedding dresses.

There were many rumours about who would be designing the Duchess of Sussex’s dress. Erdem, Alexander McQueen, Ralph and Russo, and Stella McCartney were all in the running.

Kensington Palace confirmed that the ceremony gown was designed by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy. This simple and classic dress is sure to start a new-wave of similar designs – and how fantastic was that extraordinary lace detailed veil?

A ‘Stella’ choice for many guests

Meghan went modern for the evening do, with a minimalist gown designed by Stella McCartney. Designers across the globe are sure to be inspired by the slim fitting bodice and halter neck top.

We were excited to see that Oprah Winfrey and Amal Clooney also chose this iconic British designer. We’re expecting next year’s catwalks to be packed with blush pink and mustard yellow, after taking inspiration from these glamorous looks.

Gucci was another popular choice amongst the guests at the royal nuptials. Both Elton John and husband David Furnish wore Gucci suits – along with actors Idris Elba and Tom Hardy.

A trend prediction for autumn/winter?

Navy blue was a pretty popular shade on the big day. Victoria Beckham sported a dress from her own collection, while Sarah Rafferty made a statement in an opulent Lanvin dress. As a result, we’re expecting to see this classic colour take over the catwalks next season.

A classic combination for Kate

Alexander McQueen also made a couple of appearances – the Duchess of Cambridge being one of them. She wore a pale yellow dress and matching coat that’s sure to inspire a summer collection or two.
