How to prepare for winter markets: an essential toolkit for makers
By: Luke
It’s strange to talk festive events in the middle of a heatwave, but we understand the life of a designer or maker is always fast-paced and planned in advance.
You may be shipping out the last of your summer sale stock, but we also know you’ll be deciding what markets to attend later in the year. And perhaps filling out a couple of application forms too. With that in mind, here’s a few pointers to help you smash your winter market goals this year.
Make your products look pretty
It used to be that designers would call us a few days before a big event having forgotten to snap up enough ribbons, swing tickets and labels.
Nowadays, makers markets and independent shopping fairs are big business (thanks in part to Instagram). This means many brands are upgrading their aesthetic well ahead of time.
This is great for a number of reasons. The first being that your products need to look professional before you get your mitts on a stand. For many markets, you’ll need to complete an application or join a wait list.
When you fill out your form, you may be asked to provide links to your website, social media channels and share some snaps of your products. Event organisers want to see your products are of a certain calibre – which is where consistent branding can help to really boost your brand.
And if they want to see samples? Cotton ribbon or a chunky cardboard swing ticket will go a long way to creating a lovingly wrapped package that’s sure to impress.
Take the stress out of prep
Because we make everything bespoke, it’s best not to leave your pre-market order until the last minute. Plus, think how relaxed you’ll feel knowing that these often-forgotten details are taken care of, rather than having a mad dash a few days before.
So what’s the best way to go about it? We advise getting in touch a few months in advance to make sure everything’s ready in time. Although we’re always happy to try and help you if you’re in a short-notice pickle.
Our warehouse can even store your order until nearer the time so you don’t have to worry about your workspace getting crowded. How’s that for handy?
Adapt your branding to the season
We love a cotton label for summer. But have you ever considered trying a specialist label that’s more durable in colder times?
Jacron labels, silicone labels and faux leather labels all work super well with thicker fabrics – perfect for knitted products, outerwear or pet products.
We also recommend adding a festive touch to your branding. Why not experiment with some gorgeous shiny lurex ribbon and glitter threaded labels? Or even try switching to a more high end fabric such as taffeta or satin to add a touch of sheen and glamour to bespoke products.
Take your logo to the next level
You loved your logo in the early years (perhaps you even created it yourself) but now you’re ready to enhance it. We can help with that too.
You don’t have to have logo artwork or an established brand to place an order with us. Our friendly team can work collaboratively with you to create something special that truly represents your brand. And there’s no better time to tackle your branding than in the months before you go to market.
Whether you want to impress a stockist, nab that influencer collaboration or submit an application to your dream event, a new logo can do wonders for your confidence. Additionally, it’s a good idea to create a brand you really love before the busy festive season begins. After all, there’s no such thing as being too prepared.
