Step into summer fashion
By: Luke
The life of a designer is a funny one, isn’t it? We’re still munching mince pies while you’re putting the finishing touches onto bikinis and beach hats. Although after working with thousands of you over the decades, we feel like we’ve got used to your crazy ways. So in honour of your unconventional calendars, enjoy some Spring/Summer inspiration for your new collection.
The colour palette
If you want your garments to impress next summer, there’s only three colours to keep in mind: lavender, white and navy blue. These shades ruled the runways this season, with Victoria Beckham, Michael Kors and Levi’s taking a particular fancy to them.
Styling tips? White suits are predicted to make a huge impact next year, save the lavender for a stunning evening gown and use navy in dark denim jackets and jeans. Nifty.
The fabric
In addition to dark denim, there are two fabric trends to watch in SS19 – feathers and ruched fabric.
Raring to go on ruching? Tory Birch and Tom Ford have both recently used the effect to create daring evening looks – with a heavy dose of polka dots to boot.
Feeling feathers? To help make your moodboard ‘take flight’, take a look at Saint Laurent and Maison Margiela for some plucky designs.
Oh and if your designs verge on the more unconventional side, a little bird told us tie-dye fabrics are the way to go.
The breakthrough trends
As always, there are a couple of concepts that fashion insiders have spotted across collections. Sure to be a commercial hit this year are two main trends: clear materials and asymmetrical cuts.
Transparent accessories and raincoats are set to take over the high street, while one shoulder tops and dresses with asymmetrical necklines are already selling fast. Ooh la la.
Which trends tickle your fancy?
