The best labels for each season: a designer’s guide

By: Luke

Dashes Graphic

Taking those first steps towards better branding is an exciting time. But from our years of experience, we know it can be overwhelming too.

Choosing a label means thinking about all sorts of things – from considering the logo design to where on your product it’ll be displayed.

Something that often gets forgotten about? What time of year your product will be used. That’s why in this post we’re revealing the importance of keeping your branding seasonal.

Seasonal labels and why they matter

Point of sale branding solutions such as woven ribbon or swing tickets are mega important. They’re the difference between your stuff standing out on the shelves – and a customer walking on by. But woven labels are different.

Whether you choose satin, damask or taffeta labels (or fancy trying printed cotton labels) they live on your product for its entire lifetime. While ribbon or swing tickets may be discarded (and hopefully reused and recycled!) a label stamps your brand identity on a product forever. The last thing you want is for your label to look scuffed, worn or faded just a few months down the line.

And while our entire range is packed with ‘all-rounders’ that work well in all conditions, aligning your fabric choice with a season is one of the best ways to prevent wear and tear.

Harsh conditions and cold weather

Tough times call for tough fabrics. Products such as climbing, hiking or biking gear or chunky coats and knits need sturdy labels that last during outdoor adventures.

We call these specialist labels and they include:

  • Jacron labels
  • Silicone labels
  • Embossed labels
  • Embroidered badges
  • Metal labels & zipper pulls

These types of labels look awesome when teamed with thicker fabrics such as wool, denim and waterproof materials. Using these hard-wearing labels, we’ve produced designs for everything from tents and dog collars to ski gear and sofas.

Warmer climates and sunny spells

If your customers will be using your products in the summer or while on vacation, softness, lightness and comfort are key.

If you prefer woven labels, we recommend using lighter fabrics such as damask, taffeta or satin that are soft against the skin and can be concealed within the garment. We also love creating designs for our super-popular, eco-friendly printed cotton labels. They’re 100% natural and look brilliant on almost any product.

When it comes to warm weather products you also need to think about every little detail – particularly with clothing. Therefore we also advise re-thinking your wash care labels if your customers find your current ones uncomfortable (there’s nothing worse than feeling hot and bothered because of an itchy label). Ours are smooth and irritation-free – perfect for even the fussiest wearer.
